What is Federal Compliance?
Import with Confidence, Drive with Compliance.
Federal Compliance refers to vehicles which meet certain criteria set out in the SEVS.
The Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme (SEVS) is an Australian government program that lets people import special vehicles not originally sold here.
These vehicles might be:
Classic cars
Unique or limited-edition models
High-performance or luxury vehicles
If your vehicle qualifies under SEVS, it must be imported through a Registered Automotive Workshop (RAW). This workshop will modify the vehicle as needed to meet Australia’s safety and emissions rules, called the Australian Design Rules (ADRs).
Once these modifications are complete, an AVV will sign off the vehicle. It can be registered and legally driven on Australian roads.
SEVS makes it possible for enthusiasts and collectors to enjoy rare and unique vehicles while keeping safety and environmental standards high.
SEVS Criteria
Imported and complied for Australian streets
Performance—High performance vehicles with specifications significantly superior to mainstream vehicles in Australia
Environmental—Vehicles that meet or exceed the current applicable emissions standards in Australia
Campervans and Motorhomes—Vehicles that have been originally manufactured as a campervan or motorhome, or capable of conversion to a campervan or motorhome
Rarity—Vehicles of which only small quantities are produced.
Left-hand drive—Vehicles originally manufactured as left-hand drive, of which right-hand drive versions are not available in any other country or, if available, were not originally manufactured in right-hand drive for that country.
Mobility—Vehicles manufactured with, or modified to include, special features to assist people with a disability
